Employee Spotlight: Sierra

Today's spotlight is a special one for one of our youngest team members (Sierra Vintin) who just hit her 1 year milestone. Coming to us right after graduating from Appalachian State with a degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising, Sierra is multi talented in all facets of the business. On any given day you can find her working custom suiting appointments, managing (and sewing) our alterations, designing custom linings...the list goes on. It has been such a pleasure to have her as part of the team and below is our recent sit down with her so that we could share a little more about her to all of you!

How did you get into men’s fashion?

I grew up with a love for fashion, but never believed it could turn into a career. It wasn't until my second Apparel class in high school that I learned that there were many different career paths in the industry. With that information, and my love for apparel, I decided to get my degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising. I honestly never thought I would get into mens fashion; until one day, I applied to this position on LinkedIn for a company called OMJ Clothing. It was a shot in the dark, but I am so glad I took it!

What’s your relationship to Charlotte?

Growing up in a rural town, I always pictured myself ending up in a city. After I started at OMJ, I remember driving into Charlotte, seeing the city skyline, and thinking, “wow, I made it”.

What’s your favorite piece of clothing you own?

My favorite piece of clothing that I own is a 60’s style dress that I made myself. I made it for an assignment when I was in college; I had to use a garment pattern from a different decade. Since the 60’s and 70’s are my favorite decades in fashion, I fell in love with the pattern when I found it. I used an old patterned bed sheet with bright colors of pink, orange, and blue. Even though I don’t wear it too often, I love the style and the fact that I made it myself.

Who are some of your style role models/inspirations?

When talking about my style, I consider myself to be very eclectic. If I had to narrow it down to a specific category, I take a lot of inspiration from 90’s looks. Even though I grew up in the early 2000’s, I gravitated towards 90’s shows and movies. Specifically, I found a lot of fashion inspiration from the show ‘Friends’. Some of my favorite style icons from the show were characters such as Pheobe and Rachel.

What’s an unusual/interesting fact about you?

I am the youngest of eight siblings. In high school, I had to fill in as the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz because the actress broke her leg on the first night; I learned the entire part in one day. Lastly, as a senior at Appalachian State University, I won first place in the 2022 Appstate Fashion Showcase.

What unique perspective/value do you offer your clients?

With my bachelors degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising, I can offer a very technical perspective for my clients. Being academically trained in the field, I am able to show my clients beyond the design aspect, and into the application side of creating garments. For example, I am knowledgeable in pattern making, the ways garments are constructed, and how they should ultimately fit.
